abstract
Stored cereals and their products are heavily attacked by Rhyzopertha dominica during storage. Present study was designed to evaluate the relative response of R. dominica when feed on three different diets (wheat, oat and barely) at three different temperatures (25, 28 and 32 °C) under controlled laboratory conditions. Data regarding egg laying. Larvae, pupae and adult emergence was recorded after regular intervals of times. The results revealed that both factors (temperature and diet) directly affect the life history of Lesser grain borer. R. dominica egg laying, was lowest at temperature 25 °C along with diet Oat, egg laying was 9.66, while egg laying. The larval emergence from eggs was lowest at temperature 25 °C along with diet oat i.e. 14.66 and highest at temperature 32 °C along with diet wheat i.e. 27.66 after 10 days of observation. Results further elaborate that pupae formation was maximum at temperature 32 °C along with diet wheat that is 24.66 and ratio was lowest at temperature 25 °C along with diet oat i.e. 18.33 after 45 days’. So it can be concluded that better development of Rhyzopertha dominica take place at 32 °C along wheat as a diet as compared to low temperatures 25 and 30 °C with oat and barely.
