Practical advice on the rearing of Saturniid caterpillars with notes on specimen preservation and parasitoid research

Abstract: This article offers information for the successful rearing of Saturniid caterpillars. Several different techniques are described, including Sleeving, closed container and vented container. The importance of proper preparation and preservation of well hydrated food sources is discussed. Larval and ova preservation techniques for research and DNA analysis are discussed, as well as the contingencies required when larval parasitoids are detected.
