Impact assessment of forest resources on thernfauna and socio economic conditions of local community

This study was carriedrnout in the Karaker Barikot forest of district Swat Pakistan to assess thernimpact of forest resources on the insects, fauna and socioeconomic conditionsrnof local people. Total 75 out of 300 households were selected for the study.rnThe main forest resources identified were grasses (38%), trees (29%), Shrubsrn(20%) and herbs (13%). Major wild life species were as; i. animals (Canisrnaureus, Felis chaus, and Macaca mulatta) ii. The major insect fauna were (Apisrncerana, Bombus terrestris and Papilio bianor) respectively. Honeyrnproduction was calculated @ 5kg/year having value of Rs. 9000. The forestrnprovides digestible nutrients and crude protein to different number ofrnlivestock. It was concluded that forest fauna especially insects significantlyrncontributing to the economic condition of local community. Medicinal plantsrnprovide hosting to insects while insects play role in pollination. Thereforernthe presence of forest resources must be preserved for the survival of insectrnfauna and socio economic uplift of local community.
