Conservation status of Indian mammals as per the IUCN Red List, Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and CITES

In the present study, the numbers of mammals under different conservation status headings were mentioned as per the IUCN Red List, Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and CITES. A total of 417 species of Indian mammals have been classified from the Regionally Extinct (India) to Data Deficient by the IUCN. As per the IWPA, there are 171 species and subspecies of Indian mammals are listed under the Schedule I to IV and as per the CITES, there are 146 species and subspecies of Indian mammals are listed under the Appendix I to III. These statistical data would help for the introductory conservation action against Indian mammals.
