A total of 417 species of Indian mammals have been classified from the Regionally Extinct (India) to Data Deficient by the IUCN. As per the IWPA, there are 171 species and subspecies of Indian mammals are listed under the Schedule I to IV and as per the CITES, there are 146 species and subspecies of Indian mammals are listed under the Appendix I to III.
