Species diversity and population dynamics of fruit flies in drumstick ecosystem
Mahesh Math, Kotikal YK and Gandolkar
Studies related to species diversity and seasonal incidence of fruit flies in drumstick ecosystems were conducted at University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS), Udyanagiri, Bagalkot, India during 2015-16 and 2016-17. During 2015-16, Shannon Wiener index of diversity of the fruit fly population was maximum (H’=1.04) during 17th SMW of April 2016 followed by 51st SMW of December 2015 (H’=0.86). The Pielou’s evenness (J') was maximum (0.95) during 17th SMW of April 2016. The maximum Simpson diversity index value (0.77) was recorded during 17th SMW of April 2016. During 2016-17, Shannon Wiener index of diversity of the fruit fly population was maximum (H’=0.80) during 43rd SMW of October 2016. The Pielou’s evenness (J') was maximum (0.94) 42nd SMW of October 2016. Simpson diversity index was maximum (0.67) 12th SMW of March 2017 and 38th SMW (0.62) of September 2016. Irrespective species of fruit flies, maximum catches were noticed during 45th SMW of November 2016 (52.40 flies/trap/week) and during 1st SMW of January 2017 (31.50 flies/trap/week).
