Seasonal incidence of thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis) on pomegranate

RP Dongarjal, NV Bhagas, RD Solanki and Md. Ilyas

The present investigation was undertaken to observe the seasonal incidence of thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis)on pomegranate at Department of Horticulture, VNMKV, Parbhani. It was observed that the thrips population on pomegranate ranged from 1.0 to 13.24 thrips/5 cm twig. The first peak of incidence of thrips was from 1st MW to 14th MW (15.10 thrips/5 cm twig). The second peak of thrips incidence was observed from 24th MW to 52nd MW (16.64 thrips/5 cm twig) during 2014. The thrips population on pomegranate ranged from 1.20 to 10.22 thrips/5 cm twig. The first peak of incidence of thrips was from 1st MW to 15th MW (10.22 thrips/5 cm twig). The second peak of thrips incidence was observed from 24th MW to 52nd (13.00 thrips/5 cm twig) during 2015. The data showed that correlation between parameters and thrips population was non-significant during year 2014. In year 2015 the population of thrips in relation to rainy days (r = -0.073) was negatively significant while other weather parameters were found statistically non-significant with thrips population.
