A report on checklist of birds on world wetland day at major birding sites of Bikaner district, Rajasthan, India

This survey was conducted on World Wetland Day (02/02/2024) at three sites Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, Jorbeer Conservation Reserve, and Diyatra Water Body in the Bikaner District, Rajasthan. A total of 85 bird species was recorded during this visit. The present study was carried out to evaluate the status of avifauna on wetlands and to know the importance of wetlands for birds. A water body is situated in Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, known as Gajner Lake that was ruled by water birds. The Jorbeer Conservation Reserve is a protected area that was dominated by vultures, eagles, hawks, griffons and other raptor birds due to the presence of the carcass dumping site. Besides, many other native and migratory birds also observed at this location during the visit. Another site Diyatra is a village in the Bikaner city that is occupied by a water body. Water birds were major attractive portrayal at this site. Conservation of birds as well as wetlands is crucial for the environment. It has been reported by many studies that urbanization, habitat fragmentation, overgrazing, and other anthropogenic activities causes severe menaces on the avian biodiversity and other animals as well. This exploration was done for investigation of avi-fauna at major birding sites of Bikaner District. The effort for conservation and governance of birds was also mould for amplifying the population threatened species of birds in this region. Some vital observations of this visit are specified in this report in detail.
