Assessment of Indigenous Fish Diversity and Physicochemical Parameters of Water Bodies Surrounding Dwarekeshwar River Basin, Hooghly District

Chakraborty T, Saha NC and Chakrabarti S

The intention of this research methodology is to analyze the ecological well being of Du-Satin Dighi in Hooghly, West Bengal. This study aims to comprehend the influence of seasonal alteration on the hydrochemical parameter of this particular wetland. This wetland is situated in the middle catchment area of the Dwarakeshwar River Basin and is affected both by flash floods and monsoonal floods. Present seasonal assessment was carried out to establish the correlation between wild fish abundance and surface water quality at four distinct points of Du-Satin Dighi from March 2019 to February 2021. A total of 20 species belonging to 7 orders and 12 families were found in terms of fish faunal diversity. Shannon Weiner's diversity index (2.112 - 2.231) indicates this particular water body is slightly polluted. The study recommends constant monitoring is needed to minimize the surrounding anthropogenic activities to ensure a good ecological health status of this perennial wetland.
