A study on molecular phylogeny of Philosamia ricini using cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 genes

To evaluate the evolutionary relationship across 16 distinct strains of P. ricini were collected and PCR amplified, sequenced utilizing the cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COX1) gene sequence. The sample of the Philosomia ricini was procured and sequenced through cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (COX1) gene sequence. Fifteen COX1 gene sequences of the Samia ricini available within the Asian continent were collected from the GenBank library and its evolutionary relationship was studied using the Maximum Likelihood and Neighbor-Joining approach. The sequence obtained was BLAST analyzed in the NCBI database and the sequence showed similarity with S. ricini. Prior studies have regarded these as homologous organisms. The sample was submitted as S. ricini and the accession number was obtained. Evolutionary relationship studies with the existing COX1 sequences from the GenBank library utilizing the Maximum Likelihood and Neighbor-Joining method showed significant variations in its relationship. Significant variations were observed in the evolutionary relationship analysis studies with the sample sequence indicating the possible genetic diversity, evolutionary history, and geographic influences.
