The research was carried out in the Actopan River, in Jareros, Veracruz, to evaluate water quality using aquatic bioindicators such as macroinvertebrates and diatoms, together with physicochemical parameters. The BMWP and EPT indices for macroinvertebrates and the IDP index for diatoms were applied to measure contamination by anthropogenic activities. Twenty-one families of macroinvertebrates were collected, with Chironomidae being the most abundant with 32 individuals, and 14 genera of diatoms, Nitzschia being the most abundant. The BMWP (95) and IDP (1.998) indices indicated acceptable water quality, although with signs of moderate pollution, while the EPT index (16%) reflected poor water quality. The results show the need for continuous monitoring with bioindicators to effectively manage the conservation of aquatic ecosystems in the region.
