Laboratory studies were conducted to identify the reaction of 28 number of rice accessions along with resistant check, Ptb33 and susceptible check, TN1 against brown planthopper populations in Godavari Delta of Andhra Pradesh through two methods of screening. Out of those, six accessions i.e. IR24, ASD7, Rathu Heenati, Babawee, Chinsaba and Triveni along with Ptb33 exhibited resistance to highly resistance reaction. The remaining except IR64, showed resistance to moderate resistance reaction. Tolerance studies viz.,% functional plant loss index, plant dry weight loss index and tolerance index indicated that all the rice accessions exhibited any one type of tolerance indices against BPH. Ten rice accessions i.e. N22, Pokkali, IR 22, Babawee, IR65482-4-136-2-2, Mudgo, Chinsaba, Balamawee, Triveni and ARC11367 with lower% functional plant loss index; four accessions i.e. Ptb33, Utri Rajapan, ARC 10550 and IR 71033 with highest plant dry weight loss index and 15 accessions i.e. Chinsaba, IR 40, N 22, N'Diang Marie, IR 72, ADT 52, Triveni, ASD7, IR64, IR66, Swarnalatha, Balamawee, IR 22, IR 24 and ARC 6650 with greater tolerance index were found to have good tolerance against rice BPH.
